DIWALI -2012

 DIWALI - FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

Me with a phuljadi
A colorful anaar

My favourite festival of the year- Diwali , also known as the festival of lights arrived again this year on the 13th of November . The date of this festival keeps changing as it depends on the Hindu calendar. This year once again we lit up our house with beautiful lights on each window, decorated tables and made beautiful rangolis just outside the door to welcome all things good and holy.

I have been making the rangoli on Diwali for almost 7 years now and the designs I choose are always simple yet time consuming! This year it took me almost 4 hours to make the rangoli and I'm suffering right now with pain in my thighs ( making a rangoli requires non stop crouching and bending etc).

On this day , not only my house but the entire city lights up with beautiful decorations and glimmering lights. No one can NOT be happy on this day! I have a lot of pictures to show you pertaining to what I have written so far.

Also people dress in all their finery , complete with heavily embellished Indian clothing and gold and diamond jewellery. But since I burst fire crackers ( another tradition- after worshipping the gods we burst fire crackers at night ) , wearing all that would pose a significant fire hazard. Hence I chose non fussy clothing that involved a Zara top, Mango jeans and a simple gold and black necklace that i purchased at an exhibition.

Another tradition on Diwali is to play card games like Poker , teen patti etc! But these aren't for the faint hearted . The real games - the kind that my dad plays involve buy ins of a minimum of a $1000.

Bursting fire crackers on this day is a tradition like I said before but it isn't the safest thing! A type of firecracker is called an 'anaar'. Its a conical shaped cracker , no bigger than your palm but when lit it shoots out flames and sparks upto 2 storeys of a building! We light it with a thin , long ( stick type) fire cracker called the fuljadi and then run away from the anaar for safety! This year an anaar burst just after I had lit it and I barely had time to get to safety. Normally you do get 10-15 seconds before it starts shooting out , but when it bursts you don't get more than 3-4 seconds to run. Luckily nothing happened . I was scared momentarily but got over it !

Here are the pictures  . :)

Winter is finally here!!

These boots were a part of my birthday wishlist and I love them ! They are neutral , possess buckles and have a 2 inch wedge heel!! This white shirt was also a part of the wishlist - it's perfect with gold studs running down the center! Each one of us has read it in some magazine, blog, or some fashion article that the perfect white shirt can make an outfit ! My search for the perfect white shirt ended with this beauty from Mango. The skirt is from last Christmas in Singapore . I found it in H&M. The necklace is from Mango and has its own little story which I shall relate some other time! I chose to pair the outfit with some gold accessories to highlight the gold stud buttons!

MY BIRTHDAY!

I had such low expectations this year for  my birthday and somehow it turned out to be the best birthday ever! I thought one of my closest friends wouldn't be there with me the whole time and it kind of just ruined my mood! But, I was pleasantly surprised when that friend made this amazing plan which included a surprise for me and presents of course!

The day started with my friends surprising me while I was still sleepping! I was soo shocked I refused to come out of the covers! They got me a lovely cake ( Winnie the Pooh- yes I love him) and tons of presents. My best girlfriend got me this amazing Metallic Gold top from Promod ( Can't wait to style it) and this amazing personalized mug with photos of the two of us!

There was also this AMAZING pair of Mango jeans which fit me incredibly and I had to wear them right there and then. From my place, we all went to bar- b -q which is a Chinese Restaurant where I treated my friends to a lunch party. From there we went to Princep Ghat for boating but because of the fact that there were 7 of us and we would have to take two boats ( no one wanted to go on the second boat) we left.

We then went to Aqua Java for some hookah and then ice cream at Movenpick. Finally after about 6 hours I went home thouroughly happy with my day. Take a look at the pictures :)

DO DENIM

I was finally able to get my hands on a denim shirt!! I've been on the hunt for one since March! I had found one in Mango initially but it turned out to be defected. This shirt was a part of my birthday wishlist ( I turned 22 on the 18th of October) and I scored it from Zara. I decided to go for a very casual first look - with white jeans and tan and black accessories!
